CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Freshman Christopher Lile (Waynesville, N.C. / Homeschool) ran a season best time of 28:21.0 as he finished in 25th place for the Gardner-Webb men's cross country team at the Charlotte Invitational on Friday evening.

The Runnin' Bulldogs finished in fourth place with 100 points, which was 16 points behind third place Savannah State. Samford University won the team event with 21 points, and the Bulldogs were led by Arse'ne Guillorel who finished in first place with a time of 25:02.5
Mckinley Gray (New Bern, N.C. / The Epiphany School) ran a strong race for GWU, as he finished two positions behind Lile with a total time of 29:07.2
Marcquel Woodard (Gainesville, Ga. / Gainesville H.S.) ran a season best time in the 8K, as he finished in 29th place with a time of 29:17.2
James Haynes (Charlotte, N.C. / Clover H.S.), Matthew Cook (Connelly Springs, N.C. / East Burke High School) and Aaron Cronk (West Jefferson, N.C. / Ashe County High School) also ran for the Runnin' Bulldogs and they finished in 32nd, 34th, and 35th respectively.
The Gardner-Webb women's cross country team finished in sxith place with a total of 190 points and it was led by Claire Cates (Hillsborough, N.C. / Orange High School) who cross the finish line in 54th place with a time of 24:22.3. This was the first 6k race of the season for women's cross country team, as the previous three weeks all had been a 5k distance.
Gabrielle Cortese (Franklin Springs, Ga / Athens Christian School) crossed the finish line in 58th place, which was nine seconds behind Cates (24:31.8).
Jenna Ford (Wasilla, Alaska / Wasilla H.S.) finished the 6k race just four positions behind Cortese with a time of 25:00.3.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will take a week off before they return to course on Oct. 11 when they compete at the 42nd annual Furman Invitational.
