HIGH POINT, N.C. - Krista Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass. / UMass Dartmouth) made a season high 12 saves as the Gardner-Webb women's soccer team (4-5-1, 1-0-1 BSC) played to a scoreless draw with High Point (3-2-2, 0-0-1 BSC) in Big South Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
Chauvin played one of her best games of the season in goal for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as High Point held a 30-5 advantage in shots including a 13-1 advantage in shots on goal. This was the third shutout of the season for Chauvin and it lowered her goals against average to 0.92.
This is the first time since the 2009 season that Gardner-Webb has remained undefeated through two conference games, as they opened that season with home victories over Winthrop (2-0) and High Point (1-0).
Shelby Hooe (Mechanicsville, Va. / Hanover H.S.) paced the offensive attack for the Runnin' Bulldogs as she led the team with three shots on the afternoon.
Jenny Marshall led the attack for the Panthers, as she recorded a game high five shots, two of which were on net.
" I am very proud of how we played today, commented head coach Mike Varga. High Point is a quality team that is difficult to play on the turf and we held up to the challenge. We didn't play our best match in terms of attaching, and we had too many techical breakdowns, but our effort was constant. Three points to open conference play on the road is a nice start for us, but now we get back to work and prepare for Coastal."
Gardner-Webb returns home for the first time in nearly a month, when it hosts Costal Carolina in its Big South Conference home opener on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
