GWU Men's Golf Finishes Sixth at the Golfweek Program Challenge

PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's golf team finished in sixth place overall at the 2014 Golfweek Program Challenge hosted by Golfweek Magazine at the True Blue Golf Resort in Pawley's Island, S.C.
GWU posted rounds of 276, 290 and 283 to finish the three day event with a team score of 849, -15 under par, good enough for the sixth place finish.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were led by junior Clement Kurniawan who posted GWU low rounds of 71, -1 under on Monday, and a 67 -5 under on Tuesday, to go along with a first round 69, -3 under to finish tied for sixth-place overall with a total three day score of 207, -9 under par. Kurniawan finished with 18 birdies over the three day event.
Behind Kurniawan and also posting a top-15 finish was sophomore Vincent Blanchette. Blanchette carded the GWU low round of Sunday with a 68, -4 under, and followed that up with rounds of 73, 69 to finish tied for 12th-place overall at 210, -6 under par. Blanchette turned in 14 birdies for the event.
Having a strong showing in his first event for the Runnin' Bulldogs freshman Jake Kennedy carded a low round of 70, -2 under par, on Sunday and finished with a combined score of 217, +1, finishing in a tie for 34th-place. Kennedy carded 9 birdies over the three day event, and hit a hole-in-one on the Par-3 148 yard 3rd hole on Sunday.
Rounding out the scoring for the Runnin' Bulldogs were redshirt-sophomore Chris Jones and Senior Matt Yelverton. Jones carded rounds of 72, 72, and 74 finished with a total score 218, +2, earning him a tie for 37th-place, while Yelverton finished the event with rounds of 69, 76, and 74 tied for 40th-place with a total score of 219, +3.
Old Dominion took home the team championship with a final score of 833, -31 under par, while Jacksonville (836, -28 under par) finished in second.
Jacksonville's Tomasz Anderson medaled, as he posted a first-place finish with rounds of 68, 69, and 60 to card the low score of 197, -19 under par.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to play this coming weekend when they will compete in the 2014 Tar Heel Intercollegiate hosted by the University of North Carolina on September 12th-14th in Chapel Hill, N.C.
