Parker's Double-Double Powers Women's Basketball To Victory Over Charleston Southern

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Olivia Parker scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Gardner-Webb women's basketball team (7-9, 3-4 BSC) extended its winning streak to a season-high three games as it defeated Charleston Southern (3-11, 0-6 BSC) 70-54 in a Big South Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Paul Porter Arena. 

Kiera Currie scored 11 points and knocked down three attempts from beyond the three-point arc as the Runnin' Bulldogs continued their hot shooting from long distance knocking down seven of their 15 attempts on the afternoon. 

Gardner-Webb stifled Charleston Southern for the majoirty of the game limiting the Buccaneers to 34.4% shooting and 23.5% (4-17) from beyond the three-point arc. 

Candance Brown did a little bit of everything for GWU scoring six points, grabbing seven rebounds, blocking four shots, and dishing out a game-high six assists. Gardner-Webb did a great job of distributing the basketball totaling 17 assists on 22 field goals made for the game. 

Alexus Hill was very active on the afternoon scoring a career-high 15 points and grabbing five rebounds, while Tatum Jarvis paced the offense off the bench for CSU scoring 15 points and the Buccaneers got production from its non-starters outscoring GWU 35-18 off the bench. 

Gardner-Webb raced out to a 11-0 run over the first seven minutes of the game, and held the Buccaneers scoreless until the 12:31 mark when Jarvis scored a layup to make the score 11-2. 

Charleston Southern cut the defecit to just five (21-16) on a three-pointer by Alyssa Mann at the 6:47 mark before the Runnin' Bulldogs answered back with a 9-0 run to extend their advantage back to 14 (30-16) with 4:33 remaining in the opening period.

Jarvis scored the last points of the half on a layup with 42 seconds remaining as the Buccaneers cut the defecit to just six (33-27) at the halftime break. 

Alecia Hardy scored a layup to open the second half to cut the defecit to four, but Gardner-Webb  would lead for the rest of the second half. The Buccaneers would get as close as eight points with 6:37 remaining but the Runnin' Bulldogs pushed their advantage to as much as 16 points in the second half as they would take the victory 70-54.

Gardner-Webb puts its three-game win streak on the line Tuesday, when it travels to Buies Creek, N.C. to face Campbell at 11:45 a.m.
