Jerome Hill Named To Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List

BOSTON --- Gardner-Webb junior Jerome Hill (Adel, Ga.) has been named to the Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch List, announced CollegeInsider.com officials earlier this week.

Hill is one of two players from the Big South Conference to make the list alongside High Point's John Brown. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the Division I "Mid-Major" Player of the Year.

The award is named in honor of Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four.

The 2015 recipient will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Awards Banquet on April 3 in Indianapolis, site of the 2015 men's NCAA Basketball Championship.

Hill currently leads the Big South in both scoring (19.7) and rebounding (9.5) after back-to-back 31-point performances against Coastal Carolina and Longwood. He passed a pair of personal milestones last Saturday at Coastal, becoming the third player in the program's Division I era to record both 1,000 points and 600 rebounds.

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound forward is 39 points from tying Chris Gash for fourth on the program's Division I all-time scoring list, currently sitting fifth with 1,040 career points. He is also 20 rebounds shy of equaling Simon Conn's career total of 629 boards, which ranks second in the school's Division I era.

Gardner-Webb is back in action on Saturday when the Runnin' Bulldogs travel to Charleston, S.C. to take on Charleston Southern in a battle of first-place foes at 5:30 pm.
