Gardner-Webb Takes On College Of Charleston In Last Road Dual Meet Of Season

CHARLESTON, S.C.- The Gardner-Webb men's and women's swim team take to the road for its last road dual meet of the season when it travels to Charleston, S.C. to face the College of Charleston on Friday and Saturday.

Friday's meet is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start and on Saturday, action is set to begin at 1 p.m.

This weekend's meet will be the last meet ever for the College of Charleston as earlier this season it was announced the school will be cutting the programs at the conclusion of the season.  "We have a tremendous rivalry with the College of Charleston program over the last 16 years. Many meets have come down to the last relay with the winner of the relay taking the meet, " commented Gardner-Webb head swam coach Mike Simpson.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will be the last team to ever face the Cougars in the Stern Center Pool. The pool will be closing at the conclusion of the 2014-15 season, and will be filled in to make room for new offices.

"This dual meet takes on special significance because their school announced that they are dropping the program at the end of this season," commented Simpson. This is possibly their last dual meet ever and the last meet in their facility. We are anticipating an overflow and emotional crowd for two days, and have expressed to our team that the best way to honor their program is to give them the best dual meet ever."

The Gardner-Webb women's swim team are coming off a lost to Georgia Southern last Saturday (114.5-144.5), while the men's team has yet to compete to in 2015.

Gardner-Webb returns to the pool next Saturday (Jan. 31) when it hosts Davidson for senior day before it fine tunes its training for the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships Feb. 18-21 at the University of Georgia.
