Men's Tennis Drops Match to Mercer University, 5-2

MACON, G.A.  – GWU men's tennis team lost their match Saturday 5-2 to Mercer University at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center in Macon, Georgia.

The Runnin' Bulldogs are now 1-2 on the season with the loss but saw good play from Juniors Benjamin Kaszas and Nikita Zverkov picking up two singles wins earning Gardner-Webb their two points in the match.

Kaszas playing at the No. 1 singles spot played a good match claiming his second personal win on the year playing a competitive match in the first set with Mercer's Oliver Snaider before a commanding second set to win the match 7-5, 6-1.

Zverkov also has been playing well as of late at the No. 2 Singles position for GWU winning his match in solid fashion defeating Anderson Scarpa of Mercer in straight sets with scores of 6-4, 7-6.

Head coach Mike Griffith had this to say about today's matches. "Mercer really jumped out on us early in doubles. We came back winning those first two singles matches but it was just a little too late. I give credit to this Mercer team they played well today, but even with the loss today I still see us making improvements with every match we play."

Gardner-Webb men's tennis will have a quick turn around as they take the court again tomorrow at 4 p.m. Facing off against Georgia State at the prestigious Atlanta Athletic Club in Atlanta, Georgia
