Atlanta, G.A.- The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team came from behind to win an exciting match over Georgia State, 4-3 this afternoon playing in Atlanta, G.A. at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
The Runnin' Bulldogs dropped two of their doubles matches, securing the doubles point for Georgia State, and they also fell at the first two singles positions going down 3-0 in the team score before fighting all the way back to win four singles matches in a row to claim the match overall for GWU.
Senior Ernest Alberch claimed the win for GWU winning at the No. 4 singles position. Alberch's play was gritty and tough when the Runnin' Bulldogs needed it most. Alberch's match went all three sets against Sofiane Chevallier winning the match 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Freshman Yaroslav Prostakov started it all off though by defeating Sebastian Acuna 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 3 singles position. Next to win for GWU was Senior Brendan Dempsey at the No. 6 position coolly defeating Valentin Horvat 6-3, 6-2.
Red-shirt senior Korhan Ates picked up his first singles win of the 2015 season by beating Joseph Bishop at the No. 5 singles position 6-3, 6-2. Knotted at 3-3 Alberch did what he had to do at the No. 4 singles slot to secure the match for GWU.
Gardner-Webb men's tennis will travel back to Boiling Springs, N.C. tonight and have about a week and a half before returning to match play on Wednesday, February 4th against the Davidson Wildcat's in Davidson, N.C. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
