WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Gardner-Webb's throwers were among the best Friday during the first day of the JDL Hilton Garden Innvitational at JDL Fast Track, with Sarah Mitchell and Nathan Padfield each recording top-10 finishes for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Mitchell (Roswell, Ga. / Centennial HS) finished 10th in the women's weight throw with a distance of 15.08m (45'01.75"), just shy of her season-best distance of 15.80m at the Dick Taylor/Carolina Cup earlier this season.
Padfield (LaVergne, Tenn. / LaVergne HS) took sixth in the men's weight throw with a toss of 16.65m (54'07.50"), which placed him fourth among collegiate competitors. It established a new season-best mark for Padfield, outdistancing his throw of 16.56m on January 16 at the Dick Taylor/Carolina Cup event.
Former GWU throws coach and international competitor Andy Fryman won the event with a distance of 21.28m (69'09.75").
Men's high jumper Seaver Wait cleared 1.92m (6'03.50") to place 12th in the high jump (11th among college competitors). The height was just shy of his personal best mark of 1.98m set earlier this month in Chapel Hill.
Gardner-Webb will wrap up competition at JDL Fast Track on Saturday.
