BOONE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb dropped a 27-10 decision at Appalachian State Friday night, its first event of a busy, three-match weekend.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (4-9, 2-3 SoCon) take on Davidson and American University in Davidson, N.C., on Sunday afternoon.

Friday night's action started at 157 pounds, with Appalachian State's Zach Strickland outlasting Tyler Marinelli for a 6-2 win. Nick Kee surprised SoCon pins leader Austin Trott at 165 pounds, capturing a slim 6-5 decision for an early 6-0 lead for the Mountaineers.

Forrest Przybysz slipped past Brett Stein, 9-6, at 174 pounds for another Appalachian State trifecta before Hunter Gamble captured a 2-1 win over Nick Vetell at 184 pounds.

Boyce Cornwell followed with an 8-4 win at 197 pounds, but Appalachian State ran off four consecutive victories to seal the team win.

Ryan Mosley picked up his 20th win of the season for Gardner-Webb at 149 pounds in the final bout of the evening – a 17-8 major decision.
