Dunovant Ties School-Record With Seven Three-Pointers In Victory At Winthrop

ROCK HILL, S.C.- Mayhana Dunovant scored a career-high 26 Points and hit seven three-pointers tying the school record for most three-pointers hit in a game as the Gardner-Webb women's basketball team (6-9, 2-4 BSC) won its second straight game in a 79-65 victory at Winthrop (7-6, 3-1 BSC) in a Big South Conference matchup on Monday evening at the Winthrop Collesium. 

Olivia Parker notched her second straight game over 20 points, scoring 21 points and was a force on the defensive end trying a career-high with four blocks and also added four steals.

Gardner-Webb continued its hot shooting from behind the three-point line, connecting on 10 three-pointers for a second game in a row. Winthrop extremely well on the evening, hitting 26 of its 57 attempts (45.6%), but was limited to just one shot from behind the three-point arc.

Schaquilla Nunn came into Monday's game averaging 13.5 points and 11.8 rebounds, but GWU stifled her for most of the evening, limiting the Eagles second leading scorer to just eight points and six rebounds on 4-9 shooting.

Erica Williams carried the Winthrop offense scoring 22 points and grabbing eight rebounds for the Eagles.

The Runnin' Bulldogs forced 20 turnovers by Winthrop and converted the turnovers in 24 points compared to just 15 by the Eagles.  

Olivia Parker scored a layup and Mayhana Dunovant scored back-to-back three-pointers as the Runnin' Bulldogs got off 8-0 burst in the game's opening three minutes.

Taylor Calvert scored on a layup for Winthrop, as the Eagles would answer back with a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to 10-9 with 14:50 remaining in the first half.

Erica Williams scored a layup and hit the ensuing free-throw to convert the three-point play to tie the game at 12 for Winthrop.

Following the Williams three-point play, Parker and Brown both score layups and Dunovant connected on her third shot from long distance, as the Runnin' Bulldogs would go on a 9-0 run to take a 21-12 lead with 10:30 left in the opening period.

Dunovant would connect on two additional three-point shots and Gardner-Webb would take a 39-30 lead into the locker room.

Coming out of the locker room, GWU extended its lead to 12, 52-40 with 12:48 remaining.

Winthrop would get as close as five points with 8:13 to go, but Dunovant hit a three-pointer to extend the GWU back to eight and the Runnin' Bulldogs would go on for the 79-65 victory.

Gardner-Webb returns home for its next game on Saturday when its hosts Charleston Southern at 4:30 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
