Tar Heel Intercollegiate Cancelled
October 01, 2015 | Men's Golf
CHAPEL HILL – The University of North Carolina's Tar Heel Intercollegiate men's golf tournament that was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday (October 3-4) has been cancelled due to Hurricane Joaquin, which is scheduled to move up the Atlantic Ocean coastline this weekend.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were set to coompete against 13 other schools (Host University of North Carolina, Boston College, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, Furman, Liberty, Northwestern, Notre Dame, UNCG, UNCW and Virginia Commonwealth) in a 54-hole event at UNC Finley Golf Course. The teams were to play 36 holes on Saturday and another 18 on Sunday.
The storm is expected to bring heavy rains and possible hurricane-like conditions to the Triangle through the weekend. The tournament will not be rescheduled.
The Gardner-Webb men's golf team will be in action next at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate at October 12-13 at Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C.
