
Gardner-Webb Weathers Gene Mullin Invitational Saturday

GREENVILLE, S.C. --- The Gardner-Webb women's cross country team placed three runners in the top 20, and Christopher Lile (Waynesboro, N.C.) paced the men's squad with time of 17:17.45 at the 42nd Gene Mullin Invitational 5k on Saturday morning.
Gardner-Webb finished fourth out of 11 teams in the women's race, accumulating 116 points, while the men placed seventh with 229 points. Claire Cates (Hillsborough, N.C.) led the way for the women in 11th, crossing the line in 20:04.22, as Gabrielle Cortese (Franklin Springs, Ga.) placed 13th with a time of 20:16.31.
Jenna Ford (Wasilla, Alaska) finished 17th with a time of 20:30.51, while Rachel White (King, N.C.) and Sydney Davis (Granite Falls, N.C.) placed 37th and 43rd, respectively. Lauren Kilpatrick (Jacksonville, Fla.) rounded out the scorers for Gardner-Webb in 48th with a time of 23:02.42.
Lile paced the Runnin' Bulldogs in the men's race, finishing 39th with a time of 17:17.45. Keaton Poole (Spindale, N.C.) placed 58th with a mark of 17:49.71, as Josh Parks (Forest City, N.C.) and Matthew Cook (Connelly Springs, N.C.) finished less than 30 seconds apart in 63rd and 64th, respectively. Marcquel Woodward (Gainesville, Ga.) placed 67th to round out the scorers for Gardner-Webb.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to the course on Friday, October 16 at the College of Charleston Classic, which has been moved to Rock Hill, S.C. due to hazardous course conditions in Charleston.
