Men's Golf Finishes Second at 2015 Donald Ross Intercollegiate

MORGANTON, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb men's golf team finished in second-place overall out of 13 participating teams, just one stroke behind the winning school Jacksonville University, at the 2015 Donald Ross Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State University at the 6,718 yard, par 70, Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs as a team shot rounds of 286, 282, and final round team low 278, 2-under par, to finish with a total score of 846, +6. Garnder-Webb finished just one shot behind the team winners from Jacksonville University who shot rounds of 272, 288, and 285 to take home the honors with the three round of 845, +5. As a team Gardner-Webb finished first in birdies made at the Intercollegiate holing 48 over the two-day tournament.
GWU junior Vincent Blanchette had another consistent performance at the Intercollegiate shooting two rounds of even par 70 in his first and third rounds, combined with a 68 2-under par in his second round of play placing him in a tie for fourth-place at 208, -2, also just a stroke off of the individual medalists.
David Wicks (64, 75, 68) and Franck Meadle (65, 71, 71) of Jacksonville University as well as Jeremy Grab (69, 71, 67) from Wofford College all shared the co-medalist honors at the Intercollegiate finishing at -3 after their 54-holes of play.
Chris Jones the redshirt-junior for Gardner-Webb played strong in his final round of play shooting a 69, 1-under par, to go along with rounds of 71 and 73 to finish in a tie for 12th at +3. Jones led the Runnin' Bulldogs charge of birdies this week holing 12 over his three rounds on Monday and Tuesday.
Sophomore Jake Kennedy had a great final round of his own at the Intercollegiate shooting a Gardner-Webb best individual round at the tournament with a 67 , 3-under par, which he combined with rounds of 77 and 71 to finish +5 at the Intercollegiate in a tie for 19th.
Red-shirt junior Elki Kow (72, 70, 77) and sophomore Aaron Thomas (73, 74, 72) completed the Gardner-Webb lineup at the Donald Ross as both finished in a tie for 34th-place overall with combined 54-hole scores of 219, +9. Kow, Thomas, Kennedy, and Blanchette all finished the Intercollegiate with nine birdies made.
The Gardner-Webb men's golf team will hope to take this strong play and finish at the Donald Ross into next week as they will tee it up at the Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon University October 19-20.
