BURLINGTON, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb men's golf team finished in sixth-place out of 16 participants at the 2015 Phoenix Invitational hosted by Elon University at the 6, 867 yard, par-71 Alamance Country Club in Burlington, N.C.

As a team Gardner-Webb carded official rounds of 295, 292 and 296 to finish with a combined total score of 886, +34, good enough for sixth just one stoke behind the fifth-place team Radford University.

Runnin' Bulldog sophomore Jake Kennedy was the top individual finisher for Gardner-Webb at the tournament behind rounds of 73, 72, and another 73 to finish with a total score of 218, +5, tying for 16th. Kennedy rolled in 10 birdies leading the team in that category en route to his best finish this fall.

Behind Kennedy was junior Vincent Blanchette who placed in a tie for 24th on the leaderboard via rounds of 73, 72, and 75 to finish with a 54-hole score of 220 at +7. The finish was Blanchette's second top-25 in his last two tournaments and he tabbed an eagle on his scorecard on the 514 yard par-5 12th-hole in his second of play at the tournament.

Next to finish for Gardner-Webb was red-shirt junior Elki Kow who finished the tournament in a tie for the 47th position shooting rounds of 73, 74, and 80 giving him the total score of 227, +14.

Red-shirt junior Chris Jones (80, 74, 75) and sophomore Aaron Thomas (76, 77, 76) rounded out the Gardner-Webb lineup as both shot 229, +16 finishing in a tie for 54th-place overall.

The Pirates of East Carolina University took home the team honors at the Invitational shooting an impressive combined score of 19-under par from rounds of 279, 285, and a scintillating final round 269, while Adam Bell of Virginia Commonwealth University was the medalist shooting rounds of 69, 69, and an impressive 66 to cap off a 204, 9-under par, 54-hole stretch of golf.

The Runnin' Bulldogs men's golf team will take a few weeks off before concluding their fall season at the Charleston Southern Kiawah Classic hosted by Charleston Southern, November 1-3, at the Turtle Point Golf Club.
