SPARTANBURG, S.C. The Gardner-Webb women's golf team placed in a tie for third-place overall, out of 11 participants, with the host school Wofford College at the 2015 Terrier Intercollegiate played at the 6,012 yard, par-72, Country Club of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs shot rounds of 302 and 313 to have a combined total team score of 615, +39, nine strokes behind second-place finisher and Conference members Winthrop University.
Individually Gardner-Webb's team all notched top-30 finishes as senior Mary Katherine Donovan and junior stalwart Taylor Dodson both tied for ninth-place. Dodson shot both rounds at the 36-hole event in a score of 76, while Donovan shot an opening round 75, and final round 77 as both finished with total scores of 152, +8. The top-10 finish was Donovan's first of the fall campaign, whereas Dodson kept her streak of top-10 finishes alive placing in the top-10 for the ninth consecutive tournament.
Right behind Donovan and Dodson was Julia Henderson placing 12th overall. Henderson held the opening round lead at the tournament after shooting first round score of 72, even-par, before finishing out the tournament with an 81, +9, just one stroke, 153 (+9), off the Runnin' Bulldog top finishers.
Junior Sarah Bertram placed in a tie for the 25th spot on the leaderboard with rounds of 79 and 80, 159 (+15), while freshman Morgan Laird finished in a tie for 27th with two rounds of 80, 160 (+16).
Kennesaw State took home the top team honors at the Intercollegiate as they shot a combined score of 590, +14. The Owls also took home the top individual honors as Laura Estefenn medaled with rounds of 74 and 71 to finish at 145, +1.
The Gardner-Webb women's golf team will look to put a strong finish to their fall season this coming Monday and Tuesday, October 24-25, as they participate in the Winthrop Intercollegiate hosted by Winthrop University at the Rock Hill Country Club.
