RADFORD, Va.- Radford scored two first half goals and added three more in the second half to defeat the Gardner-Webb men's soccer team 5-0 in a Big South Conference match on Friday evening at Cupp Stadium.
With the victory, Radford improves to 12-2 1 overall and 7-1 in conference play, while Gardner-Webb drops to 3-11 and 2-4 against Big South opponents.
The Highlanders were on the attack for much of the evening, outshooting GWU 28-3, including a 17-1 advantage in the first half of play.
William Liles recorded eight saves in net for GWU, his second highest total of the season, while Aitor Pouseu Blanco and Nicolas Mertzokat both appeared in goal for Radford and combined for the Highlanders' sixth shutout of the season.
Friday's match featured physical play from both sides, as the team teams combined for 19 fouls, four yellow cards, and one red card.
Sivert Daehlie deflected in a cross by Finn Tiedmann in the 28th minute to give Radford a 1-0 lead and Jakob Strandater notched the second goal of the match six minutes before halftime, and the Runnin' Bulldogs would head to the half trailing by two.
After being held without a corner kick and attempting just one shot, Gardner-Webb managed two corner kicks as well as two shot attempts, but Radford struck for three second half goals and would go on for the 5-0 victory.
Gardner-Webb plays its last road match of the season next Wednesday (Oct. 28) at Presbyterian, before returning home for its final two matches of the season. The Dogs will host High Point on Halloween night (Oct. 31) and will face Longwood in the regular-season finale, Nov. 4.
