
Three First-Round Doubles Wins Paces Men's Tennis At ITA Regionals

CARY, N.C.- Gardner-Webb won all three of its first round doubles matches to advance to the second round at the 2015 ITA Regionals hosted by Duke University at the Cary Tennis Park.
Jonathan Walker and Paul Hogan split the first two sets 6-3 and 4-6 of their opening round doubles match against Garrido Ignacio and Ramon Simonetti (USC Upstate), but won the match in a third set tiebreak, 1-0.
Yaroslav Prostakov and Nikita Zverkov were paired together for GWU and picked up a first round victory (7-6(4), 3-6, 1-0(6) over Josh Hublitz and Andres Torres of UNCW. The doubles pairing for GWU won the first set 7-6, and after dropping the second set 3-6, stormed back to win the match in a third set tiebreak.
Benjamin Kaszas and Maximilian Scholl defeated Matt Daly and Zack Lewis of the College of Charleston in an opening round match, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0.
In second round matches, Walker and Hogan as well as Prostakov and Zverkov each pushed their respective doubles matches to a third and deciding set, but ultimately would come up short.
Zverkov put together a solid first round singles match for GWU defeting Fredric Lehfeldt in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 and Scholl also picked up a first round win versus Benton Wood of South Carolina, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1.
Both Walker and Kaszas also played first round singles matches for the Dogs, but all three would come up short in their respective matches. Walker lost to Nick Horton (NC State) in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 while Kaszas also dropped his first round match in straight sets to Adam Steryous of Furman, 6-2, 6-1,
Gardner-Webb returns home for its final match of the fall season when it hosts Big South foe Presbyterian for the PC/GWU Challenge Oct. 29-30.
