Kristen Hurley Selected to USA Bobsled National Team

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- Former Gardner-Webb track star Kristen Hurley (Columbia, Conn.) has been named in the field of 23 athletes vying for a spot on the 2015-2016 USA Bobsled National Team, announced USOC officials Monday.
Hurley is one of five women's push athletes competing for three spots on this year's national team, a field that includes two other first-time selections in former Texas Tech University sprinter Terra Evans (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Baylor University track and field sprinter Kehri Jones (Killeen, Texas).
Athletes competed in a series of races at Mount Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, N.Y. in the final step of the selection process to vie for a chance to earn a spot in one of three sleds per discipline this season.
World Cup bobsled and skeleton racing kicks off in Altenberg, Germany November 30- December 6, 2015 before returning to the U.S. in 2016 with races in Lake Placid, NY from January 5-9 and Park City, Utah from January 11-16. The national team will be split between the first three World Cup races in Europe and the North American Cup races in Calgary and Whistler, Canada before the full team comes together in January for the Lake Placid event.
A two-time Big South Indoor Pentathlon Champion, Hurley was a seven-time all-conference performer on the Gardner-Webb track and field team from 2010 to 2015, competing primarily in the pentathlon (indoor) and the heptathlon (outdoor).
The Columbia, Conn. native won her first career pentathlon at the 2012 Big South Indoor Championships and repeated the feat the following season. Hurley finished second in the heptathlon at the outdoor championships three times, narrowly missing out on the title as a sophomore while earning all-conference honors in the event in each of her four attempts.
