CLINTON, S.C.- Frej Ramberg's second goal of the season in the 42nd minute lifted the Gardner-Webb men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Presbyterian in a Big South Conference men's soccer match on Wednesday evening at Matrin Stadium.
With the victory, Gardner-Webb improves to 4-11-0 overall and moves to 3-4 in conference play, while PC falls to 0-14-1 and 0-7-1 against league opponents.
Ramberg's goal was the first game-winning goal and the second goal of his career.
William Liles made his second straight start in net for the Runnin' Bulldogs and the freshmen stopped all five shots that was directed toward him to record his second shutout of the season.
Offensively, the Blue Hose held a 20-12 advantage in shot attempts but directed just five of those attempts on goal. John Speed and Steven Huppe each paced the PC attack with a game-high five shots, while Ali Al-Gashamy led the Runnin' Bulldogs with three.
Presbyterian attempted 10 first half shots, while holding Gardner-Webb to just six, but three minutes before halftime, Ramberg took advantage of a failed clearing attempt by PC, drilling a one-time shot past Johnny Aracher for the game-winner.
The Runnin' Bulldogs came close to increasing the lead with their second goal, but Dustin Peyton's shot smacked the post in the 61st minute and GWU continued to hold a one goal lead.
PC attempted 10 second half shots, but could not find the back of the net and Gardner-Webb held on for the 1-0 victory.
Gardner-Webb returns home for the final two matches of the season, hosting High Point on Saturday and welcoming Longwood to Greene-Harbison Stadium for its final match of the regular-season.
