MANHEIM, Pa. – Gardner-Webb's Hunter Gamble has been chosen to participate in a showcase match at the 50th annual Hire Heros NWCA All-Star Classic presented by the Wrestlers in Business Network on November 1.
The prestigious event will be held at Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion beginning at 5:00 pm in Atlanta, Ga., and will air on ESPNU.
Gamble (McDonough, Ga. / Union Grove HS ) will take on University of Missouri All-America wrestler Willie Miklus at 184 pounds in one of seven showcase matches before the main event. He is one of three SoCon wrestlers scheduled to compete in the showcase matches.
Gamble, who qualified for NCAA Championships at 174 pounds as a freshmen in 2013, is expected to challenge for a berth again in 2016 at his new weight class. The redshirt junior posted a 13-8 overall mark last season, splitting time between weight classes. He posted a pair of pins, won three matches via tech fall and had one major decision victory.
Gamble was 24-15 as a true freshman in 2013, winning the Southern Conference title at 174 pounds to earn his berth at the NCAA Championships. Gamble picked up a win over No. 9 seed Nathaniel Brown (Lehigh) in the event's opening round.
He was 27-7 overall as a non-starter in 2013-2014.
His opponent Sunday – Miklus – posted a 33-9 record last season as a redshirt freshman and earned seventh place – and All-America honors – at 184 pounds after beginning the season as an unranked wrestler.
