Gardner-Webb Men Finish Fourth, Women Finish Sixth At 2015 All-North Carolina Invitational

GREENSBORO – Gardner-Webb's men finished fourth and the GWU women finished sixth at the 2015 All-North Carolina Invitational, as the two-day event came to an end on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The two teams combined for 18 top-10 finishes and had 65 finishes that resulted in team points in Saturday's grueling schedule – which started at 10 am and wrapped up after 8:00 pm.

Coach Mike Simpson's men had 958 points, just 19 points behind third-place Davidson. The women finished with 803 points, which was only 28 points shy of fifth-place Campbell.

The Gardner-Webb women got points from two of its relay teams in the 200 medley to start the day, with the "A" team of Lili Toth, Whitney Peters, Georgie Graves and Kelsey Williams finishing sixth (1:48.42) and the "B" squad of Taylor Schartz, Anna Banick, Tessa Walsh and Caroline Andrews taking 13th (1:52.58).

The Gardner-Webb men's "A" squad was whistled for an early start in the 200 medley, but the "B" team of John Baker, Fred Simons IV, Andrew Knudsen and Andrew Linzie finished eighth (1:37.86).

London Schumacher got off to a great start individually, finishing third in the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:29.31. She also had a 10th-place finish in the 200 fly (2:08.50).

Graves followed with a a fourth-place finish in the women's 100 fly, touching in 57:23 seconds – and Nathan Lile matched that finish himself in the ensuing men's race, finishing fourth in a time of 50:66.

Lile also had a fourth-place finish in the men's 100 free, posting a time of 45.52 in the afternoon session.

The 1650 free events wrapped up the morning session, and Gardner-Webb's women got a pair of top-10 performances – as Lauren Oglesby finished third (17:32.33) and Morgan Vanderschaaf finished eighth (18:02.30).

Peter Wakely and Luke Denman followed suit on the men's side, with Wakely finishing fifth (16:26.91) and Denman taking seventh (16:36.84).

Toth posted a pair of top-10 results in the breast stroke individually on Satrurday, taking eighth in the 100 breast (1:07.03) and ninth in the women's 200 breast (2:25.88). On the men's side, Austin Toney finished 10th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:11.50.

Connor Bos was just as effective in the backstroke on the men's side, touching in ninth place in the 100 back (52.03) and finishing 10th in the 200 back (1:55.92).

Gardner-Webb will break for more training in advance of its next meet, which will be held on Saturday, October 31 in Christiansburg, Va., against Maryland-Baltimore County and Virginia Tech (Noon).
