BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Avery Ryan's two second half goals propelled High Point past the Gardner-Webb men's soccer team 4-1 on Saturday evening in a Big South Conference match at Greene-Harbison Stadium.
With the victory, the Panthers improve their overall record to 7-6-4 and even their conference record at 3-3-2, while Gardner-Webb falls to 4-12 and 3-5 in Big South play.
High Point created a lot of offensive opportunities with chips over the GWU defense, as it outshot the home side 26-11 and put 10 of those shots towards the Runnin' Bulldog goal.
Offensively, Ebe Kudolo and Ryan each totaled a game-high six shots to lead the Panthers, while Filipe Conceicao paced the GWU attack with three shot attempts.
William Liles made his third straight start in net for the Runnin' Bulldogs and was solid in net for the Dogs recording 10 saves, his second highest total of the season.
High Point had an opportunity to take the lead in the 13th minute on a shot by Renato Puyed, which he fired on net, but struck the post and the match would remain tied.
The Runnin' Bulldogs had a quality scoring chance in the 36th minute as Conceicao dribbled the ball along the top of the 18-yard box and the sophomore put a strike towards the net that beat Kody Palmber, but drilled the post.
Despite outshooting the Dogs 12-3 in the first half, it looked as if the two sides would go into halftime tied at zero, but with less than two minutes remaining in half, Ryan slotted a through ball to Chris Ramsell, and Ramsell's shot beat Liles to the far side for the first goal of the match.
Arjun Jung tied the game at one in the 59th minute for Gardner-Webb putting away his first goal of the season, but High Point scored three goals in the second half to defeat the home side 4-1.
Gardner-Webb hosts Longwood Wednesday for its final match of the regular season at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday's match will also be Senior Night for GWU, where Gardner-Webb's five seniors will be honored before the start of the match.
