
Runnin' Bulldogs Shatter Personal Bests at Big South Championships Saturday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- Gabrielle Cortese (Franklin Springs, Ga.) finished 17th with one of nine new personal-bests for Gardner-Webb at the 2015 Big South Conference Championships Saturday, as the women placed eighth and the men placed 10th in the team standings.
High Point took home the women's title with a total of 47 points, narrowly beating out Coastal Carolina's mark of 51 points. Gardner-Webb placed eighth with 203 points – four points behind seventh-place Winthrop.
Campbell won the team title on the men's side with a total of 31 points, beating out second-place Liberty (42) and High Point (48). The Gardner-Webb men's squad finished 10th with 243 points, three points behind ninth-place Longwood's total of 240.
Cortese paced the Runnin' Bulldogs in the women's 5k, finishing 17th with a personal-best time of 18:44, as Claire Cates (Hillsborough, N.C.) and Jenna Ford (Wasilla, Alaska) placed 35th and 36th, respectively.
Sydney Davis (Granite Falls, N.C.) finished 56th with a time of 21:03, as Rachel White (King, N.C.), Michaela Williams (Nashville, N.C.) and Lauren Kilpatrick (Jacksonville, Fla.) each established a new personal-best with times of 21:10, 21:18 and 21:19, respectively.
Christopher Lile (Waynesville, N.C.) led the way for Gardner-Webb in the men's 8k race, finishing 42nd with a personal best of 27:30, as Josh Parks (Forest City, N.C.), Joshua Valdez (Haw River, N.C.) and Keaton Poole (Spindale, N.C.) took home places 47 through 49. Each set a new personal best, posting times of 27:59, 28:03 and 28:16, respectively.
Matthew Cook (Connelly Springs, N.C.) rounded out the scorers for Gardner-Webb, finishing 57th with a personal-best time of 29:49.
