BOILING SPRINGS --- The Gardner-Webb University athletic department will host Bulldog Madness on October 8 at 11:00 pm in Bost Gym to give Runnin' Bulldog fans a chance to meet both the men's and women's teams and kick off the 2015-2016 season, announced head coaches Tim Craft and Rick Reeves Monday.
"We are excited to celebrate a new basketball season during Homecoming Week with our student body," said Craft. "It should be a great night and a lot of fun for everyone."
The event will give fans a chance to join both Gardner-Webb basketball teams to celebrate the start of the 2015-2016 season, as well as the opportunity to receive a free t-shirt and other prizes. Gardner-Webb students will also have the chance to win free textbooks during the event.
All Gardner-Webb students in the crowd, along with both the men's and women's teams, will be split into four teams for the evening: seniors with Coach Craft, juniors with Coach Reeves, sophomores with women's assistant coach Ralph Patin III and freshmen with men's assistant coach Jeremy Luther. The seniors will wear black, juniors will wear red, sophomores will wear grey and freshmen will wear white.
The evening's festivities will kick off at 10:30 pm with a photo station at center court in front of the Gardner-Webb/Big South backdrop, where fans can have their picture taken with players from either the men's or women's team. At 11:00 pm, Coach Reeves and Coach Craft will start the night with a few words before the introduction of the men's and women's teams, as well as the cheerleading squad.
The first event of the evening will follow shortly afterward with a relay race featuring one men's player, one women's player, one cheerleader and two fans for each team. The women's team will then engage in a knockout competition featuring two students and one women's player from each grade.
The cheerleading squad will perform during the second intermission, followed by a men's basketball dunk contest and a women's basketball lip sync competition. Contestants from the top two teams will then take the floor for a hot shot competition to decide the evening's winner.
The final event of the night will be a chance for one lucky student to win free textbooks for a semester. The contestant will be chosen from the winning team. Closing remarks from both Coach Craft and Coach Reeves will follow to wrap up the night's festivities.
