RADFORD, Va.-The no. 2 seed Radford scored a goal in the first and second half of play to defeat the Gardner-Webb men's soccer team 2-0 in a Big South Conference Quarterfinal Tuesday night at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium.
Gardner-Webb ends the season with a 4-14 overall record, while Radford improves to 14-2 and advances to Friday's Big South Semifinal, where they will face the no. 6 seed High Point, who upset no. 2 seed Coastal Carolina on penalty kicks.
Radford held a 29-5 advantage in shot attempts, including attempts 12 shots on goal, while holding the Runnin' Bulldogs to just one. Sami Jilla led the Dogs with three shot attempts on the evening, while Krzysztof Nalborski led the Highlanders with a game-high four shots.
William Liles played well in defeat for GWU as he faced 10 shots and recorded eight saves.
Radford took the lead on Nalborski's first goal of the season in the 13th minute, and despite holding a 15-1 advantage in shot attempts, the Highlanders led just 1-0 at half.
The game would remain in the balance, as Radford continued to lead by just one goal, but the Highlanders put the game away with their second goal in the 64th minute and held on for the 2-0 victory.
