BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.-Gardner-Webb head men's tennis coach Mike Griffith, announced that senior Benjamin Kaszas and sophomore Adam Schmidt have been named captains for the 2015-16 season.
Kaszas, a senior from Budapest, Hungary, has played the majority of the last two seasons at the no. 1 singles position, facing the opponent's best player every time he steps on the court. An international business major, Kaszas is a leader not only on the tennis court but also in the classroom, as he is a two-time member of the Big South Presidential Honor Roll.
Kaszas had this to say about the upcoming season, "The upcoming season will be special. We have the closest team we have had since I have been here and we understand what it will take to reach our goal as Big South Conference Champs."
A native of Lund, Sweden, was voted captain for the 2015-16 by his teammates. In just his second season for the Runnin' Bulldogs, Schmidt has risen to become one of the leaders of the team. Combined with his effort on the court as well as off, Schmidt is looked to by his teammates as someone they can come to for support and advice.
When asked about the 2015-16 season, Griffith commented, "If you look at the conference champs each of the last 3-4 years, the most talented team is not winning our conference tournament. It is the team who peaks and works the hardest. We had the talent to win it all last year but we were too inconsistent. I feel this year our team is special and i am looking forward to the season."
Gardner-Webb recently completed its fall season and will kick-off the champion portion of its schedule, Jan. 17 when it hosts Georgia Southern at 1:00 p.m.
