
Women's Basketball Hosts Montreat In Season Opener Tuesday Morning

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Gardner-Webb hosts NAIA opponent Montreat for its home-opener Tuesday morning at 11:00 am for Education Day. Fans can view Tuesday's game live on the Big South Network and can listen to the call as Jared Pankurst will be calling all of the action on wgwg.org.
Last Time Out
The Runnin' Bulldogs opened the 2015-16 season this past Friday against the #20 ranked UNC Tar Heels in famed Carmichael Arena. Candace Brown's layup with 1.2 seconds left lifted GWU to a 66-65 victory, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs its first victory over a ranked team and the first win over an ACC opponent. UNC led by 15 heading into the fourth period, but the Dogs stormed back with an early 8-0 run to cut the lead to just seven. Brown had 17 points to lead Gardner-Webb and Olivia Parker chipped in with 11 points and grabbed 11 boards. Dating back to last season, Parker has six double-doubles in her last 11 games played.
Series Notes
This is the eighth meeting all-time between the Runnin' Bulldogs and the Cavaliers and
the third-straight season the two schools have faced each other. Gardner-Webb leads the series with a 7-0 record, and all seven matchups have been played in Paul Porter Arena. The Runnin' Bulldogs defeat Montreat 118-37 in last year's game between GWU and Montreat.
Jump Shots
2 Friday's road win the season-opener was the first victory for Gardner-Webb in a road sea- son opener since the 2010-11 season, when it defeated Wofford 62-47.
2 Seniors Olivia Parker and Candace Brown enter the 2015-16 season with 843 and 790 points respectively and can become the third pair of teammates to go over the 1,000 point mark in the same season.
2 With a victory over Montreat, it will be the first time since 2013-14 that Gardner-Webb starts the season 2-0, as GWU opened the 13-14 season with victories over Montreat and UNC Greensboro.
