CHAPEL HILL, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb wrestling team dropped a 25-12 decision to no. 19 North Carolina (3-1, 0-0 ACC), on Saturday evening at Chapel Hill High School.

Saturday's dual meet was the first of two events for the Runnin' Bulldogs (1-2, 0-0 SoCon) this weekend, as they compete in the Wolfpack Open at N.C. State Sunday.

Cortez Starkes got GWU off to a quick start in the first match of the evening at 125 pounds, picking up a 10-4 decision over Anthony Bosco.

Tyler Ziegler gave the Runnin' Bulldogs their second win of the night defeating Austin Headlee at the 133 pound weight class. Ziegler and Headlee were locked in a 4-4 tie and needed an extra period to decide the match. In the overtime period Ziegler scored a point and recorded an extra point for riding time to earn the victory.

Evan Henderson tied the match at six, as he pinned Ryan Hull at the 2:00 mark of the first half, but Ryan Mosley responded for the Dogs with a close 4-3 decision at 149 to put Gardner-Webb back on top, 9-6.

North Carolina would roll off five straight victories to cement the victory, but Boyce Cornwell defeated Cory Gilliland-Daniel 6-1 at heavyweight, in the final match of the night.

Gardner-Webb returns to action Sunday, when it travels to Raleigh, N.C. to compete in the Wolfpack Open hosted by N.C. State.
