Men's Golf Places 15th at Weather Shortened 2015 Kiawah Classic presented by Aramark

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.- This morning the 2015 Kiawah Classic presented by Aramark and hosted by Charleston Southern University at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in Kiawah Island, S.C. was suspended due to inclement weather with the third round being deemed a wash out as scoring from the second round was declared final.
Facing off against some very stiff competition this week the Gardner-Webb men's golf team finished in 15th-place overall via rounds of 296 and 303 as a team. The Kiawah Classic was one of the toughest fields the Runnin' Bulldogs have participated in with the likes of Duke, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Missouri and other top teams converging on the coast of South Carolina.
Junior Vincent Blanchette earned a top-25 finish in Kiawah this week finishing in a tie for 23rd behind a 70, 2-under par first round and finished with a 75 Monday afternoon to finish with a score of 143, +1.
Red-shirt juniors Chris Jones and Elki Kow finished in ties for 46th and 61st-place respectively as Jones shot 73 and 76 finishing at 159, +5, while Kow carded 75 and 76 giving him a total of 151, +7.
Sophomores Jake Kennedy and Aaron Thomas rounded out the Runnin' Bulldog line-up as Kennedy shot a pair of 77's and Thomas shot 79 and 78 over the shortened two-day event. Kennedy finished with a total score of 154,+10, earning him a tie for 84th while Thomas score totaled up to 157, +13 finishing tied for 98th.
Host school Charleston Southern took home the top team honors this week going 10-under par via rounds of 287 and 279 for a total of 566, while Robin Petersson took home the top medalist honors shooting 4-under par, 68 and 6-under par, 66, to finish atop the leaderboard.
The Kiawah Classic was the last tournament of the fall season for the Gardner-Webb men's golf team as they now shift their focus to preparing for the 2016 Spring season.
