Buffalo Tops Gardner-Webb, 30-6, Friday Night In Non-Conference Bout

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Gardner-Webb dropped a 30-6 decision Friday night at Buffalo in non-conference wrestling action.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (2-3) fell behind early to the Bulls, with Kyle Atkins taking a 9-0 major decision in the first bout over Cortez Starkes. Bryan Landry took a 3-1 sudden victory over Tyler Ziegler at 133 pounds and Brandon Lapi pushed the lead further with a 10-3 major decision over Ryan Hull at 141.
2015 NCAA Qualifier Ryan Mosley broke the shutout with a 4-2 sudden victory over Colt Cotten at 149 pounds, but Buffalo rallied with a tight, 3-1 decision at 157 pounds and a pin at 165.
Another close decision at 174 pounds – a 3-2 win by Muhamid McBryde over Brett Stein – gave the Bulls a 23-3 edge with three matches remaining. Wins at 184 and 197 pounds capped the night for Buffalo.
Boyce Cornwell closed out the match with a strong, 12-6 decision over Jake Gunning at 285 pounds for the final margin. It moved Cornwell to 5-0 in dual action this season.
Gardner-Webb will have little time to rest, getting back to action Saturday at the 2015 Cleveland State Open.
