Gardner-Webb Grounds Owls In 107-62 Blowout Victory

BOILING SPRINGS --- Dylan Poston (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) poured in a game- and career-high 20 points, and Tyrell Nelson (Charlotte, N.C.) accounted for a double-double to lead Gardner-Webb to a 107-62 blowout victory over Warren Wilson College on Friday morning in Paul Porter Arena.

Gardner-Webb (5-7) connected on 39-of-71 from the floor and 11-of-26 from downtown on the afternoon, shooting 54.9 percent overall while holding Warren Wilson (7-9) to a field goal percentage of 31.1 percent. The Runnin' Bulldogs won the battle on the glass by a 49-37 margin, while recording season-highs of 30 assists and 22 steals – converting 29 Owl turnovers into 32 points.

Poston led all scorers with a career-high 20 points – including 12 in the second half – with a 6-for-9 clip from the floor while hitting 5-of-7 from long range. Nelson added his fourth double-double of the season with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while David Efianayi (Orlando, Fla.) poured in 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting.

Jamaal Robateau (Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia) scored a season-high 12 points to go along with six rebounds, as Harold McBride (Bronx, N.Y.) and Laquincy Rideau (West Palm Beach, Fla.) each tied a season-high with eight assists apiece. Rideau also recorded a season-high seven steals in the contest.

Justin Gonyea paced the Owls with 14 points on 3-of-5 shooting, including a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line, while Danilo Radonjic added 13 points. Devin Davis pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, as Jaquann Lockhart and Tyler Triplett chipped in nine and eight points, respectively.

Gardner-Webb led for more than 38 minutes in the contest, opening an early 16-8 lead on a fast-break lay-in by Adonis Burbage (Orlando, Fla.) before a 24-10 run pushed the advantage to 42-18 with 3:51 to play in the first half. Warren Wilson would close the period on a 7-2 spurt to trim the margin to 44-25 at the break.

The Runnin' Bulldogs came out firing in the second half, hitting nine of their first 11 shots to open the period and widen the gap to 74-37 on a Robateau trey with 11:14 to play. Robateau and the Runnin' Bulldogs would cruise to victory from there, pushing the margin to as many as 51 down the stretch with a season-high 63 points in the second half.

Gardner-Webb returns to the court on Monday, December 21 when the Runnin' Bulldogs host Southern Conference foe VMI at 7:00 pm in Paul Porter Arena.
