
Western Michigan Runs Past Women's Basketball

TRUJILLO ALTO, Puerto Rico- Jessica Jessing and Teagan Reeves each scored a game-high 15 points and Western Michigan held the Gardner-Webb women's basketball team to 23.6% shooting in a 71-44 victory on Saturday afternoon in Ruben Zayas Montanez Colisuem.
The Broncos scored 44 of their 77 points in the paint compared to just 20 for Gardner-Webb, and Western Michigan knocked down 4-8 from outside, while limiting GWU to 0-7 from behind the three-point line.
Breanna Mobley and Deborah Meeks each had 10 points for the Broncos, while Olivia Parker scored 12 point and hauled down eight boards to pace Gardner-Webb.
While the Runnin' Bulldogs had a tough afternoon shooting the ball, they managed to get to the free-throw line for 28 attempts, connecting on 18 shots, while Western Michigan was just 9-of-13 from the charity stripe.
The Broncos did a great job of distributing the basketball totaling 20 assists on 29 made field goals and outrebounded Gardner-Webb by a 48-34 margin, including holding a 17-15 advantage in offensive boards.
Western Michigan got off to a quick 12-0 run to start the game over the first four minutes, but Evelyn Adebayo's layup cut the deficit to eight with just over three minutes to go in the first period.
Jessing's layup extended the Bronco's lead to 23 with 1:15 left in the first half and Western Michigan limited Gardner-Webb to just 3-of-25 from the field in the first half, as the Runnin' Bulldogs trailed 38-15 at the half.
Gardner-Webb shot the ball much better in the second half connecting on 10-of-30 from the field, but Western Michigan led the entire second half and went on for the 71-44 victory.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action tomorrow afternoon when they face Arizona at 3:30 p.m.
