BOILING SPRINGS --- The Gardner-Webb lacrosse team has selected sophomores Lexi Kasofsky (Gilbert, Ariz.), Cassidy McDowell (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Lindsey Lippert (Syracuse, N.Y.) as its captains for the 2016 season, announced head coach Jillian Krick Monday.
"I am very excited for Kasofsky McDowell and Lippert to be our captains," said Krick. "They have shown leadership on and off the field and I am confident in their ability to lead this team. I am excited to see how they continue to lead their peers and grow throughout this year."
Kasofsky played every game for the Runnin' Bulldogs in their inaugural season, making 15 starts while scooping up 12 ground balls and causing eight turnovers. She recorded a season-high four ground balls against Liberty on April 10 and forced two turnovers in the program's first win on April 24 against Presbyterian.
McDowell is making the transition from attack to goalie this fall, having scored 11 goals in 15 starts last season. The Cincinnati, Ohio native finished the campaign on a five-game goal-scoring streak, netting nine of her 11 goals in that span, including a hat trick at Campbell on April 19. She is expected to compete with freshman Candice Partlow (Mishawaka, Ind.) for the starting nod in goal.
Lippert made a tremendous impact for Gardner-Webb in its first season, recording 10 goals, three assists and 13 points while starting all 17 games. The sophomore midfielder wrote her name into the record books on April 24, scoring the winning goal to complete Gardner-Webb's comeback against Presbyterian in the program's first win its in history.
Gardner-Webb opens the 2016 season on February 5, 2016 at nearby Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C. The Runnin' Bulldogs will play their first home game of the campaign two days later, hosting ACC foe Virginia Tech at Spangler Stadium.
