ROCK HILL, S.C.- Senior Nathan Lile continued his winning ways Friday evening aiding Gardner-Webb to a third-place finish after the first day of the Fall Frenzy Invitational at the Rock Hill Aquatics Center.
Lile absolutely crushed the competition in the finals last evening of the 50 free swimming his fastest time this season of 20.03 to earn the win in what has become one of his finest events. The win earned Gardner-Webb 32 points for the night.
On total the Runnin' Bulldogs men's swim team earned 474.5 points last evening leaving them in third-place behind Queens University (630.5) and Wingate University (528), but ahead of Catawba College (193).
Gardner-Webb was very successful with its relay teams Friday night taking second and fifth-place in the 200 free relay. Conner Bos, Nicholas Dyer, Nathan Lile and Tyler Gomez took home second from a time of 1:23.20, while Jake Ennis, Andrew Linzie, Hal McKay, and anchor Tate Warden finished fifth with a time of 1:25.25.
The Runnin' Bulldogs men in the last event of Friday night captured third and sixth-place in the 400 medley relay, this time Bos was joined by Austin Toney, Gomez, with Lile as the anchor finishing third (3:23.42). Joshua Clarke swam with Fred Simons IV, Andrew Knudsen, and Dyer anchored the sixth-place finish with a time of 3:27.19.
Some other notable individual performances in the pool for Gardner-Webb Friday night came from Bos finishing fourth in the 50 free (21.09), Dyer touching first in the 50 free "B" final (20.85), Luke Denman placed seventh in the 500 free (4:38.47), and Toney took home eighth in the 200 IM (1:58.25)
The Fall Frenzy Invitational resumes Saturday morning with preliminaries at 10:30 a.m. Finals on Saturday will start at 6 p.m. The three-day event concludes Sunday with preliminaries at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
