ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lauren Oglesby set a Fall Frenzy Invitational record in the 1650 free event swimming to a time of 16:46.40 aiding Gardner-Webb to a third-place finish at the Invitational.
The Runnin' Bulldogs garnered 1455 points of the three-day event finishing behind Queens University of Charlotte (2014) and Wingate University (1813).
Oglesby's record broke the previous record set last year in the 1650 free by over 21 seconds as last season UNC Asheville's Galen Broido swam to the time of 17:05.30. Freshman Morgan VanderSchaaf swam well in the 1650 free finishing in sixth with a time of 17:34.97.
In the second event of the evening the 200 back Gardner-Webb saw strong swims from Juliana Denmark and Hope Saunders finishing sixth and eighth respectively. Denmark finished with a time of 2:05.47, while Saunders swam 2:09.82 in the event.
Whitney Peters earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 breast from a time of 2:18.11, and freshman Anna Banick placed just behind her in fifth with a time of 2:21.15.
GWU picked up another individual fourth-place finish in the 200 fly from Adel Kiss who swam a time of 2:04.60. In the 200 fly "B" final Gardner-Webb collected first through fifth place finishes from Tessa Walsh (2:06.75), Carol Zangla (2:08.14), Mackenzie Ropka (2:10.95), Miranda Johns (2:11.18), and Christina Clayton (2:12.03).
In the final event of the Fall Frenzy Gardner-Webb got consistent finishes in the fifth and seventh positions. Clayton, Ropka, Kiss, and Peters earned fifth (3:32.92), while Emily Nordberg, Walsh, Banick, and Zangla took sevent (3:39.05)
The Gardner-Webb women's swim team will return to action January 15-16 when they will face off against Georgia Southern and the Savannah College of Art and Design in Tri-meet action at Statesboro and Savannah, Ga.
