GWU Swimming Shatters Six School-Records On Day One Of CCSA Championships

ATHENS, Ga.- The Gardner-Webb men's and women's swim team each raced to All-Conference performances in the 800 free relay and the 200 medley relay, as the GWU men's team sits in second place, while the women's team remaining in fifth place after day one of the Coastal Collegiate Swim Association Championships held at the University of Georgia.

Gardner-Webb men's team sits in second place with 72 points, just two points off of first place UMBC (74), while the women's team is in fifth with 106 points, 99 points behind Florida Gulf Coast, who sits in first place with 205 points.

The Runnin' Bulldogs got off to an impressive start at the championships, as the GWU men took third place, and broke a school-record, in the 800 free relay (6:40.11). Nathan Lile got the relay of to a great start, setting a new-school record (1:37.88)  and was followed by Cameron Pou, Hal McKay, and Nicholas Dyer, who anchored the relay.

Lile's record setting split in the relay, makes him the first NCAA male swimmer to make an NCAA "B" cut in the event.

Following the record setting performance by the men's team in the 800 free relay, the GWU women's team took to the spotlight in the 200 medley relay (1:40.96), and did not disappoint, finishing third and earning All-Conference honors with their performance. Lili Tóth was the first swimmer to hit the water for GWU, and was followed by Charity Byrum, Mary O'Doherty, and Kelsey Williams, who were all instrumental in breaking the school-record.

The biggest highlight of day one, happened in the final men's event of the evening, where the Runnin' Bulldogs set a new school record and raced to a first place finish in the 200 medley relay. Connor Bos got the relay off to an extremely fast start, setting a new school record with his split (22.18), and the sophomore swimmer was followed by Brandon Searle, Tyler Gomez, and Lile who anchored the record-setting swim.

Day one of the championships concluded with the women's 800 free relay, and Gardner-Webb ended the night with momentum setting a new school record, while finishing in fourth place. Giorgie Graves was the first GWU swimmer to hit the water, and was followed by Williams, Toth, and Jenna Ballinger.

Day Two of the CCSA Championships begins tomorrow with the preliminary swims at 10 am, and the finals starting at 6 p.m.
