Women's Tennis Drops Match, 6-1, to East Carolina

DAVIDSON, N.C.– The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team dropped their match 6-1 to East Carolina University this afternoon playing at the neutral site of the Knobloch Tennis Center on the campus of Davidson College in Davidson, N.C.

GWU lost all three of their doubles matches this afternoon losing the matches 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0 at the No. 1-3 doubles positions respectively.

The Runnin' Bulldogs would go on to lose at the No. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 singles position with their lone win on the day coming at the No. 3 singles position. Stina Magnusson the freshman from Gothenburg, Sweden collected the win for Gardner-Webb playing a hard fought three-set match against ECU's Maria Gomez, coming from behind to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. With the victory Magnusson moves to 3-1 on the year at the No. 3 singles spot.

Junior Rokia Sacko also played well today losing in a very gritty three-set match at the No. 2 singles position versus the Pirates Michelle Castro 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. With the loss today the GWU women's tennis team moves to 2-2 overall on the 2015 season.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will play next on Monday, March 2nd when they host to Appalachian State University in Boiling Springs, N.C. at 2:30 p.m.

No. 6 - Dana Gray (ECU) def. Mary Walker Mixon (GWU) 6-1, 6-1
