BLACKSBURG, Va. --- Emma Rose (Weston, Fla.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season for Gardner-Webb, as Virginia Tech utilized a strong first half effort to record a 20-1 victory over the Runnin' Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon in non-conference play.
Rose paced Gardner-Webb (0-4) with her fourth goal of the season, connecting on her only shot of the day as Monique Martin (Tyngsborough, Mass.) sent two attempts toward goal. Martin and Lindsey Lippert (Syracuse, N.Y.) tallied three and two draw controls, respectively, with Martin, Lippert and Amanda Steinmuller (Ellicott, Md.) each scooping up one ground ball. Raygan Hall (Cleveland, Tenn.) and Amy Schmitt (Waxhaw, N.C.) each made two saves between the pipes.
Tara Feehan led Virginia Tech with three goals on three shots, as Laney Clarke, Meghan Macera, Emma Harden and Megan Will each added two strikes. Clarke, Will, Mary Claire Byrne, Paige Graham and Kelly Glatthorn each recorded an assist. Meagh Graham and Hannah Sieger combined for three saves.
Virginia Tech (4-3) got off to a strong start, building an early lead behind an eight-goal effort in the opening 10 minutes and extending the advantage to 14-0 at the break.
The Hokies would add a trio of strikes in the first 10 minutes of the second half before Rose got the Runnin' Bulldogs on the board, making a nifty move around the back of the net and flicking a shot inside the far post for her fourth goal of the season.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Thursday, March 5 when the Runnin' Bulldogs host St. Francis (Pa.) at 5:00 pm at Spangler Stadium.
