Gardner-Webb Women's Golf Opens 2015 Season With Fourth Place Finish at Seminole State Intercollegiate

LAKE MARY, F.L. – The Gardner-Webb women's golf team opened their 2015 season with a fourth-place overall finish at the Seminole State Spring Break Intercollegiate hosted by Seminole State College at the par 72, 6,001 yard Timacuan Golf and Country Club in Lake Mary, F.L.

Over the two-day 36 hole event the Runnin' Bulldogs carded team rounds of 323 and 321 to finish with a total score of 644, good enough to earn GWU the fourth-place finish overall.

Individually for Gardner-Webb sophomore Taylor Dodson placed best for GWU finishing eighth overall for the Intercollegiate shooting rounds of 78 and 76 to finish with total of 154, +10.  Dodson's round of 76 today in second round play was the low round for Gardner-Webb in the Intercollegiate.

Fellow sophomore Sarah Bertram finished behind Dodson placing in a tie for 23rd shooting a tough opening round of 85, but fought off her first round to score a 77 in her second round of play finishing with a combined score of 162, +18.

Junior Mary Katherine Donovan finished her Intercollegiate shooting rounds of 80 and 85 over her 36-holes of play ending up with the final score of 165, +21 placing her in a tie for 26th. Courtney Yanch shot rounds of 85 and 83 for Gardner-Webb ending in a tie for 38th overall with a score of 168, +24, while Tessy Tuschen rounded out GWU's line-up carding round of 80 and 91 to finish in a tie for 43rd-place with the combined total score of 171, +27.

The host school Seminole State College would take home the top team honors shooting rounds of 310 and 300 to finish with a final overall score of 610, two shots clear of second place Appalachian State.

Seminole State would also take home top individual honors as Sydney Legacy medaled shooting rounds of 72 and 76 finishing with a total score of 148, +4, one shot ahead of USC Upstate's Eden Howard.

Gardner-Webb will take a few days before they return to the course this Sunday March 15, where they will take part in the Cape Fear National Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C.
