Women's Tennis Wins Confidently Over NC A&T, 6-1

GREENSBORO, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team snapped their three match losing streak with a 6-1 victory over North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, N.C.

With the victory the Runnin' Bulldogs improved to 4-5 overall on the year, where as the Aggies fell to 0-9 so far this season.

Gardner-Webb got off to a quick start in doubles play sweeping all three doubles matches from the Aggies. Senior Yasmin Doost teamed up with freshman Stina Magnusson at No. 1 doubles defeating the Aggie team of Hilton/Powell 6-2. At No. 2 doubles Rokia Sacko and Mary Walker Mixon beating the team of Colbert/Goodridge 6-1, while Catherine White and Sarah Rieckmann combined forces to win their No. 3 doubles match 6-1 over Smith/Morgan.

Gardner-Webb continued to play well in singles play this afternoon only dropping one singles match against NC A&T. Senior Yasmin Doost was the only loss for GWU today. Doost lost her No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-2 to Khalia Powell. The rest of the matches on the afternoon all ended in straight set wins for Gardner-Webb.

Rokia Sacko won at No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-2; Stina Magnusson won at No. 3 singles 6-0-, 6-1; Fellow freshman Sarah Rieckmann won at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1. A pair of sophomores would round out the lineup for the Runnin' Bulldogs with Catherine White winning at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-1 and Teodora Stanciu winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Gardner-Webb women's tennis will look to carry over today's strong performance as they faceoff against USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. this Saturday March 14 at 1:00 p.m.
