Early Push Powers Presbyterian To Victory Over Gardner-Webb

CLINTON, S.C. --- Emma Rose (Weston, Fla.) tallied three assists and five different Runnin' Bulldogs scored, as Presbyterian College outscored Gardner-Webb by an 8-3 margin in the second half en route to an 18-5 non-conference victory on Thursday evening.

Presbyterian (1-5) converted 17-of-18 clear attempts and 6-of-9 free position opportunities in the contest, limiting Gardner-Webb (0-6) to 15 shots and 11 on goal. The Blue Hose connected on 18 of their 28 attempts on goal while forcing nine saves.

Rose recorded a season-high three assists, as Cassidy McDowell (Cincinnati, Ohio), Amanda Steinmuller (Ellicott, Md.), Monique Martin (Tyngsborough, Mass.), Lindsey Lippert (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Destiny Mead (Palm Harbor, Fla.) each found the back of the net.

Martin added an assist, while controlling a game-high seven draws and scooping up three ground balls. Raygan Hall (Cleveland, Tenn.) and Mead registered five and four ground balls, respectively, as Mead caused two turnovers. Hall made nine saves between the pipes.

Katy Richardson led the way for Presbyterian with four goals and three assists, as Lauren Schaaf scored on each of her four shots. Claire Frase, Jess Goergen and Grace MacMillan each tallied two goals, while Frase controlled five draws. Sophia Cuzzupe and Amanda Lindsey both scooped up four ground balls, as Cuzzupe and Lee-Ann Salim combined for six saves.

Presbyterian built a 6-0 lead in the first half before Gardner-Webb responded, trimming the margin to 6-1 on Martin's third goal of the season with 13:16 left in the period.

Mead added a second strike for the Runnin' Bulldogs with 37 ticks remaining in the opening period, answering three PC goals to cut the advantage to 9-2. MacMillan scored with eight seconds on the clock to send PC into the break with a 10-2 lead.

Lippert and Steinmuller each found the back of the next early in the second half, sandwiching a Richardson strike to trim the margin to 11-4 with 27:14 to play. After Presbyterian responded with free position goals from Frase and Richardson, McDowell answered for the Runnin' Bulldogs, cutting the lead to 13-5 with 17:33 to play.

Presbyterian quickly countered with a pair of goals, stretching the margin to 15-5 before adding three late strikes to equal the final score of 18-5.

Gardner-Webb is back in action on Sunday when the Runnin' Bulldogs travel to Macon, Ga. to take on Mercer at 2:00 pm.
