Gardner-Webb Takes First At 2015 Cape Fear National Intercollegiate

LELAND, N.C. – Gardner-Webb's men captured first place with a three-day showing at the 2015 Cape Fear National Men's Intercollegiate Tournament.
The Runnin' Bulldogs shot a third-round 295 and a three-day score of 886 to hold off host Appalachian State (895), High Point (896) and Delaware (905).
Robert Morris (914), St. Bonaventure (920), North Dakota (938), North Carolina Central (942), IUPUI (943), Eastern Illinois (947), Nyack (947) and Green Bay (953) rounded out the 12-team field.
The tournament was held at the 6,950-yard Cape Fear National Course (Par 72).
Vincent Blanchette (73-75-71-219) fired his best round of the tournament on Monday to finish in a tie for second individually, five strokes behind medalist Jack Sides of High Point (69-72-73-214).
Chris Jones (71-72-78-221) finished tied for sixth individually and the duo of Matthew Yelverton (76-74-73-223) and Clement Kurniawan (74-76-73-223) tied for 12th. Jake Kennedy (78-78-78-234) finished 39th for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
The tournament marked the third time in three spring tournaments that the Runnin' Bulldogs had placed fourth or better. It marked Gardner-Webb's first team title since the 2013 Patriot Fall Intercollegiate/Big South Preview Tournament on October 5, 2013 in Ninety Six, S.C. (Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor).
Up next for Coach Tee Burton and his squad is the 2015 Furman Intercollegiate (March 27-29) in Greenville, S.C.
