Gardner-Webb Women's Tennis Loses 5-2, Versus Campbell University

BOILING SPRINGS N.C.- The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team fell to Campbell University, 5-2, this afternoon in Big South Conference play at the Webb Tennis Complex.

The Runnin' Bulldogs move to 6-6 on the 2015 season with the loss and have a record of 0-4 in Conference play, while the Fighting Camels improved to 7-6 overall on the year and 3-2 in competition versus Big South teams.

The day started off well for Gardner-Webb securing wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take the early team lead. Rokia Sacko and Teodora Stanciu earned the win at No. 1 doubles defeating the team of Segarra/Ortiz 8-6, while Stina Magnusson and Mary Walker Mixon also won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles beating Campbell's team of Stanic/Ortiz.

In the transition into singles play Campbell came out firing on all cylinders. The Fighting Camels collected all but one singles match from the Runnin' Bulldogs. Gardner-Webb's lone win came from sophomore Catherine White. White playing at No. 4 singles was the last match to finish this afternoon as she defeated Ana Maria Ortiz 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 in a match tiebreak to claim her fifth straight singles victory for Gardner-Webb.

The first singles match victory for Campbell came at No. 5 singles as Teodora Stanciu fell 6-0, 6-0, to Maud Mraz. The next match to finish was No. 6 singles where Mixon dropped her match 6-1, 6-2 to Camila Valencia, while Sarah Rieckmann also fell at the No. 3 singles spot 6-4, 6-2 to Tamara Stanic.

Gardner-Webb would play tough matches at the No. 2 and No. 1 singles positions but would come up just short at those spots. Stina Magnusson fell at No. 2 losing 7-5, 6-4, to Iri Karangozishvili and Rokia Sacko dropped a draining match 7-6(0), 7-6(1), to Georgina Segarra.

Gardner-Webb still in search of their first Conference win on the year will welcome Conference opponent UNC Asheville to Boiling Springs, N.C. this Sunday March 22. The match is set to commence at 1:00 p.m. with doubles play at the Webb Tennis Complex.
