ROCK HILL, S.C. – Gardner-Webb combined for seven top-10 individual finishes Saturday, wrapping up competition at the 2015 Winthrop/adidas Invitational after three strong days.
Jordan Davis finished fourth in the women's 400 meter dash finals, topping her preliminary time to finish in 57.76 seconds – just off her personal record pace of 57.53 seconds set last season at Winthrop.
Hurdler Josh Wembolua, who qualified for the men's 110 meter hurdles final on Friday with the eighth-best time, finished seventh on Saturday in a time of 15.50 seconds.
Sarah Perkins took ninth in the women's 400 meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:05.47 and Joshua Parks captured fourth in the men's 1,500 meter run developmental race with a time of 4:16.09.
Nathan Padfield took his second top-10 finish of the weekend and posted a personal record in the men's discus, throwing the disc 42.48 meters (139'4.75"). Padfield's previous best came last last April in High Point (42.03 meters). Saturday marked the first outdoor discus attempts for Padfield this spring.
Sarah Mitchell finished fourth in the women's discus competition, picking up a new personal record by throwing the disc 41.48 meters (136'1.25"). Diamond Reese captured 18th in the discus with a distance of 33.73 meters (110'8.25").
Also on the field, Seaver Wait took sixth in the high jump, tying in that position after clearing a height of 6'0.75" (1.85m).
Gardner-Webb also had a handful of top-20 finishes on the track, with Gabby Cortese finishing 11th in the women's 1,500 meter run developmental race (5:09.04) and Claire Cates taking 16th in that same event (5:13.97).
Marquel Woodard finished 14th in the men's 1,500 meter run developmental race (4:23.85) and Aaron Cronk was 19th in the men's 800 meter run developmental race (2:07.24).
Both Gardner-Webb teams will be back in action next weekend (April 3-4) at the High Point/Vert Klassic Meet.
