Yelverton Collects Top-25 Finish as Men's Golf Take 15th Overall at the Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Senior Matt Yelverton garnered a top-25 finish, as the Runnin' Bulldogs finished in 15th-place overall at the Furman Intercollegiate played at the par 72, 6994 yard, Furman University Golf Course in Spartanburg, S.C.
Gardner-Webb shot rounds of 305, 298 and 299 to have a combined total team score of 902, +38, six shots behind the 14th-place USC Upstate.
Yelverton led Gardner-Webb this weekend finishing 19th overall by carding rounds of 76, 70 and a hard earned even par final round 72 this afternoon. Yelverton's final 54-hole score was 218, +2, earning his fourth consecutive top-25 finish this spring. Yelverton's second round score of 70, -2, was the only round under par for GWU this weekend.
Red-shirt sophomore Chris Jones shot rounds of 79, 74 and 75 this weekend giving him a total Intercollegiate score of 228, +12, and tying him for 70th-place. Freshman Jake Kennedy finished one stroke behind Jones with rounds of 78, 76 and 75 to finish with a score of 229, +13, tying for 73rd-place overall.
Rounding out the Gardner-Webb lineup at the 2015 Furman Intercollegiate was junior Clement Kurniawan placing in a tie for 92nd-place by carding rounds of 79, 78 and 77 with a final total of 234, +18, and sophomore Vincent Blanchette whose 54-hole score was 237, +21 (79, 80 & 85) placing the sophomore in a tie for 99th overall in the 112 player field.
Georgia State took home the top team honors at the 2015 Furman Intercollegiate finishing with the low team total score of 858, -6, 16 shots clear of second-place finisher Jacksonville University.
Brandon Matthews from Temple University was the top individual finisher carding rounds of 72, 66 and 68, -10, to be the medalist this weekend.
The Gardner-Webb men's golf team will take some time off to prepare for their next tournament the Wofford Intercollegiate hosted at the Spartanburg Country Club, March 13-14.
