
GWU Men's Tennis Lose Match to Coastal Carolina, 6-1

CONWAY, S.C. – Gardner-Webb men's tennis dropped their first Big South Conference match of the year to Coastal Carolina, 6-1, yesterday afternoon in Conway, S.C.
With the loss Gardner-Webb moves to 5-6 overall on the year and 0-1 in conference play.
The Runnin' Bulldogs started off the match by dropping all three of their doubles matches. Nikita Zverkov and Ernest Alberch lost at No. 1 doubles 8-5, with Benjamins Kaszas and Brendan Dempsey losing at No. 2 with a score of 8-5 as well. The all freshman team of Yaroslav Prostakov and Adam Schmidt lost their No. 3 doubles match 8-6.
Gardner-Webb moved into singles play next and would only pick up one win through out singles play yesterday afternoon. Coming off being named Big South Conference Player of The Week last week senior Brendan Dempsey continued his string of good play. Dempsey playing at No. 5 singles defeated Pedro Leme 7-6, 6-3 to win his second straight singles match.
Playing at No.1 singles Kaszas dropped his match 6-2, 6-3, followed by Zverkov at No. 2 singles losing 6-2, 6-1. Senior Alberch lost his No. 3 singles match 6-4, 6-2, while fellow senior Korhan Ates lost his No. 4 singles match in a match tiebreak 5-7, 6-2, 10-5, and junior Jonathan Walker dropped his No. 6 singles match 6-3, 6-3.
Gardner-Webb will return to Boiling Springs, N.C. after yesterday's match, as they will play host to non-conference, regional rival UNC Charlotte at the Webb Tennis Complex Monday March 9, at 2:00 p.m.
