
Women's Tennis Drop Match to Coastal Carolina, 6-1

CONWAY S.C.- The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team dropped their Conference match 6-1 to Coastal Carolina University in Conway, S.C. Saturday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb started yesterday afternoon's match off losing all three of their doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles Mary Walker Mixon and Yasmin Doost dropped their match 8-3, with Rokia Sacko and Teodora Stanciu at No. 2 losing 8-5 and Catherine White and Sarah Rieckmann were defeated 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Gardner-Webb would go on to drop all but one of their singles matches on the afternoon. Sophomore Catherine White picked up the lone win on the day for GWU by winning at No. 5 singles. White defeated Natalie Wall 4-6, 7-6, 12-10 in the match tiebreak. The win for White is her third in a row in singles play for the Runnin' Bulldogs and improves her to a 5-2 singles record overall on the year.
For GWU at No. 1 singles the senior Doost dropped her match 6-1, 6-2, followed by Mary Walker Mixon losing at No. 6 singles to Cari Berry 6-2, 6-3. The next match to finish was freshman Stina Magnusson's No. 3 singles match losing 6-4, 6-3, while the other freshman in the line up Rieckmann lost her No. 4 singles match 7-5, 6-2 and junior Rokia Sacko lost 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles before White garnered her win at the No. 5 position.
The loss yesterday moves Gardner-Webb to a 3-4 record overall on the year combined with a 0-2 record in Big South Conference play.
Gardner-Webb will look to improve on their last few results on Monday March 9, as they travel to Charleston, S.C. where they will face off against conference opponent Charleston Southern at 2:00 p.m.
