Men's Tennis Fall to UNC Charlotte, 6-1

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb played host to regional rival UNC Charlotte this afternoon losing the match 6-1 at the Webb Tennis Complex in Boiling Springs, N.C.

In doubles play the Runnin' Bulldogs got off to a slow start losing at the No. 1 position and the No. 3 position. Ernest Alberch and Nikita Zverkov lost at No. 1 doubles 6-3 to the 49ers team of Hundal/Williams, while Benjamin Kaszas and Brendan Dempsey dropped their No. 3 doubles match 6-2 to Edwards/Calott who with the win clinched the doubles point for UNC Charlotte.

Gardner-Webb for a second time in as many matches would only pick up a lone win in singles play this afternoon. The win came from freshman Yaroslav Prostakov who played No. 6 singles today for GWU. Prostakov after dropping the first set 7-6(6) to his opponent came from behind to win the second 6-4 and finish Cisti off 10-4 in a match tiebreak.

For Gardner-Webb at No. 1 singles Kaszas would fall 7-6, 6-3 to Forrest Edwards, with Zverkov would drop his match 7-5, 3-6 at No. 2 singles to Vikram Hundal and Korhan Ates playing higher then normal in the GWU lineup at No. 3 singles losing his match 6-4, 6-2.

Senior Brendan Dempsey would play at the No. 4 singles position losing his match to Kamil Khalil 6-3, 6-2 and fellow senior Alberch rounded out the loses today for GWU dropping his match 6-2, 6-4 to Alex Calott.

Gardner-Webb men's tennis will take a few days off and return to action this coming Sunday March 15. The Runnin' Bulldogs will resume Big South Conference play with this Sunday's match as they play host to the Longwood University Lancers at 1:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
