Gardner-Webb Women's Tennis Loses, 7-1, to Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C.- Gardner-Webb women's tennis traveled to Charleston, S.C. to play a Conference match against Charleston Southern University and fell 7-0 to the Buccaneers this afternoon.

With the loss today Gardner-Webb fell to 3-5 on the year and 0-3 in Big South Conference Play, while Charleston Southern moves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big South.

The Runnin' Bulldogs were swept at all the doubles positions this afternoon. Yasmin Doost and Stina Magnusson fell 8-2 at No. 1 doubles playing against the team of Sidorenko/Cooper. At No. 2 doubles Mary Walker Mixon and Rokia Sacko fell 8-2 to Hubler/Luecke, while Sarah Rieckmann and Catherine White dropped their No. 3 doubles match 8-3 to the Charleston Southern team of Placha/Cloessner.

In singles play the senior Doost fell at the No. 1 position 6-3, 6-1 to Marketa Placha, while Sacko fell at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-3 to Yvonne Hubler and freshman Stina Magnusson lost 6-2, 6-0 to Angelica Sidorenko at No. 3 singles.

In the bottom half of the singles play the other freshman in the lineup for GWU Sarah Rieckmann lost at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-2 to Mi'Kola Cooper, followed by a loss at No. 5 singles from Rieckmann's doubles mate White 7-5, 6-3 and rounded out by Teodora Stanciu losing 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to Valeria Koussenkova.

Gardner-Webb will turn around quickly and travel to Greensboro, N.C. to face off against N.C. A&T this Wednesday, March 9. The match is set to begin with doubles play at 2:00 p.m.
